Kao Corporation has been recognized as one of the 2018 World's Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute, a U.S. think tank that specializes in research on corporate ethics and social responsibility, on February 12, 2018. Kao is the only Japanese company that has received this recognition for twelve straight years since the award's inception in 2007.

The World's Most Ethical Companies is an annual recognition bestowed on companies that have achieved significant results for corporate transparency, fairness, ethics and compliance.

Kao Corporation has been recognized, for the second consecutive year, as a Supplier Engagement leader for its initiatives in reducing carbon emissions and tackling climate change across its supply chain by CDP, an international non-profit organization that drives companies and governments to reduce their greenhouse emissions.
Kao released the Kao Environmental Statement in 2009 and announced a 35% carbon emission reduction across the product lifecycle compared to that of 2005, as one of its 2020 medium-term plan goals. By setting climate change countermeasures as one of the main themes in its ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) activities, Kao is promoting the activities for enrichment of people's daily life with zero environmental impact.

Once again, the Ethisphere Institute has named Kao to its annual list of the world's most ethical companies. Kao has been chosen every year since the Institute began compiling its list in 2007, making Kao a recipient of this recognition thirteen years in a row, the only Japanese company with this honor.
